In this article, we will guide you through the basics of halftime/fulltime betting that could help you accurately navigate sports betting.

What is HT/FT in sports betting?

HT/FT, also called halftime/full-time betting, is a type of sports betting that is a double bet that allows punters to wager during the game’s half-time and place another bet during the game’s full-time or place a one-time bet for both intervals, depending on their strategy and risk tolerance. However, the tricky part about this type of sports betting is that punters must have the right predictions for both half-time and full-time, making it more critical compared to other bet types.

Now, when it comes to HT/FT, there are nine (9) possible outcomes that you can choose from. Consider looking at the following table to better understand the following outcomes:

Possible OutcomesHalf-timeFull-time
1/1Home Team LeadsHome Team Wins
1/XHome Team LeadsDraw
1/2Home Team LeadsAway Team Wins
X/1DrawAway Team Wins
X/XDrawDraw
X/2DrawAway Team Wins
2/1Away Team LeadsHome Team Wins
2/XAway Team LeadsDraw
2/2Away Team LeadsAway Team Wins

Let’s say, for example, a match between the Adelaide Crows (home team) and the Port Adelaide Power (away team), where your prediction is at X/1, which means you’re predicting that the game will be drawn at halftime (X), but the Port Adelaide Power (away team) will win and lead full-time.

If the outcome of the match results in both teams scoring 0-0 during halftime and Port Adelaide Power managing to score 2 during full-time, leading them to win the game against the Adelaide Crows (home team), then your bet wins.

Types of HT FT Bets

HT/FT Winner

If you are known to be good at predicting the game’s outcome, this bet might be for you. HT/FT winner allows punters to predict which team will be leading at both halftime and fulltime, requiring them to accurately predict both halftime and fulltime, as it is considered a combined outcome.

Correct Score

On the other hand, a correct score is the type of bet that allows punters to predict the exact final score of the match, which can be done for both half-time and full-time, with different odds provided for each possible scoreline.

Goals

  • Over/Under Goals: Allows punters to predict the total number of goals scored in the match, whether it will be over or under a specified number.
  • First Half Goals: Wagering on the total number of goals scored in the first half.
  • Second Half Goals: Wagering on the total number of goals scored in the second half.

Corner Kicks

Basically, this type of bet involves punters predicting the total number of corner kicks awarded in a match and can be split into various markets, similar to goal betting.

Bookings

This type of bet allows punters to wager on different things: it could be shown on the total number of cards shown, or it’s a matter of wagering on which team will receive the most card numbers or which team will receive the first card during the game. To put it simply, it involves the use of predictions on the number of cards that will be shown during a particular match.

Understanding the basics, particularly the possible outcomes and how to strategically approach each scenario, gives room for improvement and gives you higher chances of success. It is truly one of the most compelling ways to engage with sports betting.
